1. National FFA Finalists from ILLINOIS

The 2022 national finalists have been announced for the National FFA Agriscience Fair, Agricultural Proficiency Awards and National Chapter Awards. Orientation packets and interview schedules will be posted on the specific program pages on FFA.org and emailed to finalists and advisors.

2. Earn an Online Master’s Degree in Livestock Systems Health 

The Master of Veterinary Science (MVS) degree with a major in Livestock Systems Health is a new degree program within the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. 

The MVS degree is part-time, 100% online, and costs less than $10,000.

Increase your depth and breadth of professional knowledge in animal health and food production industries. Develop data analysis and critical thinking skills to solve real-life case studies.

3.  FFA Board Updates

• The CARE document will be incorporated into all camp, conference and leadership development opportunities.  

• Clothing stipends for female state officers was increased by $100.00 to add funds to cover the costs of pantyhose.  

• The FFA board approved the new State FFA Degree application, no changes were made to the requirements or how students will enter data, it will just look different when it is printed.  It will look very similar to an Illinois FFA proficiency award application.  The FFA Center Staff and members from the SAE committee will have some workshops/webinars later in the year to show teachers those changes.  

• The FFA board approved a NEW Star application for those State FFA Degree recipients applying for Section Star Agribusiness, Placement, Agriscience and Farmer.  This application also looks very similar to an Illinois FFA proficiency award application and much like the state FFA Degree application as well.  The FFA Center Staff and members from the SAE committee will have some workshops/webinars later in the year to show teachers this new application.  

• The FFA board approved the Supervised Occupational Experiences Awards beginning in the 2022 - 2023 school year.  The process of the application and what it will look like is still a work in progress.  Stay tuned for updates on these awards that will be awarded at the State Level only.  

• Creed Speaking update - FFA Board of Directors approved replacing “speaking unrehearsed” with “speaking without hesitation” in the question section of the creed speaking rubric.  This motion passed and Creed speaking rules have been updated and posted to the website.  

• Parliamentary Procedure update - FFA Board of Directors discussed posting videos of the top 5 state Parliamentary Procedure LDE presentations to the state website the FFA board decided to allow schools to request access to their own video only after the appeal timeline is completed.  Videos for public view will begin being posted one year after the event in July 2023.  

• Parliamentary Procedure update - FFA Board of Directors approved adding the following motions to “Section” level events as motions that can be used for points but NOT as required motions: Limit Debate, Suspend the Rules, Withdraw a Motion, and Divide a Question. This motion passed and Parliamentary Procedure speaking rules have been updated and posted to the website

4.  IAVAT Board Updates

The IAVAT and FFA Board of Directors met individually and as joint board on Monday, August 1st and the Section IAVAT chairs met on Tuesday, August 2nd.  There were numerous items on the agendas but the big items that came from the IAVAT meeting include:

• Remember to check the CDE rules for updates as we have made changes.

• There is an approved calculator graphic on the ilaged.org website under the general rules to help provide guidance on what can be used.

• The 100th anniversary Lifetime membership option is still available until October 31st.  

• Congratulations to the NAAE award and scholarship winners from Illinois!

• Updated board policy regarding the resectioning timeline.
