Secondary "Final Report for the 2009 Teacher Retention Study"

This study was conducted to create a longitudinal dataset to be utilized to highlight or predict trends within the beginning agriculture teachers in Illinois. Similar data was collected in the 2005-2006, 2006-2007and 2007-2008 academic years. Data was collected from the “Program Development for Entry Level Teachers in Agricultural Education” course (AgEd 500).

Grayville High School is located in White and Edwards Counties of section 23 just north of Interstate 64 near Evansville, IN. 27 students are enrolled in agriculture courses, primarily agrimechanics and agriscience, out of 120 total students. Great opportunity to teach in a rural school setting.

Greater Agriculture Awareness via Education is Critical to Meeting Global Needs Global demand for food, fuel and fiber is rising. About 70 million people per year are being added to our population. In order to meet those needs, greater awareness of agriculture is critical. Educational opportunities must be offered to meet that demand. The agricultural education line item has been part of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) budget for more than 20 years.

Illinois lawmakers have passed a budget, which, if enacted, could eliminate agricultural education funding that not only assists hundreds of thousands of students and teachers, but could also extinguish a program which brings returns to the state’s economy. One in four people in Illinois is employed in agriculture, an industry that is responsible for 16.3 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
