The Horticulture Department at Joliet Junior College would like to extend an invitation to you and your students, to compete in its annual Horticulture Career Development event.  The CDE is on Thursday, April 17, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.  The contest will take place at the:

The cost is $45.00 per team or $9.00 per student.  A team consists of 5 students.  Each school may enter up to three teams.  Please bring payment the day of the contest or mail checks to the following address, make checks payable to Joliet Junior College.

Please provide the number of students you are planning to bring so we can plan accordingly. The registration deadline is April 03, the event has a limit of 25 teams. Register your teams in ILAgEd Event Registration System. Remember: it will not invoice you, you must bring payment the day of the contest.

The CDE with consist of the following Events:

Judge eight (8) classes                                Pruning Nursery Stock

Completion of written exam                        Make & Package a Corsage

Identification of 50 plants

The college will again be offering scholarships to the top five individuals.  These scholarships are for students planning to attend Joliet Junior College to pursue a degree or a certificate in Horticulture.  This award is available to any high school senior who competes at this contest. Successful recipients will be notified by mail.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your students to use their classroom knowledge.  It is also a great way for the students to see what educational opportunities the college has to offer in the area of Agriculture and Horticulture.  We look forward to your participation.
