FY21 begins the 4th year of this grant opportunity. The Three Circle FFA and SAE grant supports agricultural teachers’ extended salary beyond the required school day. School districts that employ full-time middle or secondary school teachers are eligible with an approvable agricultural education program. The FY21 intent application is due by Friday, July 31st. 189 agriculture teachers have applied so far. Click for guidance from ISBE Ag Education Consultant, Dr. Erica Thieman's, July 16th message.
The grant partners with a school district to pay for 50% of 400 additional hours outside of the regularly assigned teaching duties. The grant pays a greater amount for new agricultural programs in the first four years. The district or community partners pay the remaining cost. This grant has increased the average agriculture teacher contract length to 11 months. Below are powerful statistics from the 2018-19 school year showing how 222 agriculture teachers were able to impact and assist 227,099 K-12 students with career, workplace, and leadership skills. 260 agriculture teachers participated in the grant for the 2019-20 school year.
