Tuesday, June 18th - the day BEFORE IAVAT Conference

At SIU in Carbondale

Making Sense of Phenomena and Problems in the Classroom

Immerse yourself in several strategies for how to engage students in ‘making sense’ of phenomena and problems.

Strategies include:

  • Talk moves

  • Building a class consensus model

  • Developing community agreements (class norms)

  • Getting students to ask questions

These strategies can be used in any agriculture classroom.

8:30 am - 3:30 pm

NSTA is offering a one-day, onsite professional learning workshop to support phenomenon-driven, three-dimensional teaching and learning in the classroom. We’ll use OpenSciEd K-12 science curricular materials as the context for learning, but the knowledge and strategies gained can be used independent of the instructional materials and grade level you teach.
