We are sad to share the passing of Hobart Eric Dixon, retired agriculture teacher at Chrisman High School.

Hobart Eric Dixon, 66, of Chrisman, Illinois passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at his residence. He was born April 6, 1958, in Danville, Illinois to Hobart Earl Dixon and Barbara Culton Dixon.

He was a 1976 graduate of Chrisman High School and a 1983 graduate of Southern Illinois University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. He participated in the FFA Work Exchange program in Denmark. After working for many farmers in the community and spending two years abroad in the Peace Corps, Eric was the Agriculture Teacher at Chrisman High School, retiring from there after over 20 years of dedicated service. He was an FFA Sponsor, a member of the Parke County Antique Tractor Club, and a Free Mason. Eric loved auctions, old books, traveling the back roads, and collecting Allis-Chalmers tractors and implements and Studebaker vehicles. He frequently entered a Studebaker in the Newport Hill Climb. He was a respected educator with integrity and a sense of humor, a devoted Chicago Bears fan, and most importantly a good son and brother.

Survivors include his mother of Chrisman, Illinois; one brother, Frank (Becky) Dixon of Avon; two sisters, Terisa (Raymond) Vincel of Valparaiso and Tammy (Daniel) Lutz of Rockville; and four nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation is 4:00-5:00 p.m. CDT Tuesday, June 18 at Scottland Methodist Church, 22539 N 1960th Street, Chrisman, Illinois. Services will follow at 5:00 p.m. CDT at Scottland Methodist Church with Ken Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Chapel.

Eric actively supported Mercy Ships (mercyships.org) and the Chrisman chapter of FFA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of these organizations in his honor.
