We are
sad to share the passing of Hobart Eric Dixon, retired agriculture teacher at
Chrisman High School.
Hobart
Eric Dixon, 66, of Chrisman, Illinois passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at
his residence. He was born April 6, 1958, in Danville, Illinois to Hobart Earl
Dixon and Barbara Culton Dixon.
He was
a 1976 graduate of Chrisman High School and a 1983 graduate of Southern
Illinois University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in
Agriculture. He participated in the FFA Work Exchange program in Denmark. After
working for many farmers in the community and spending two years abroad in the
Peace Corps, Eric was the Agriculture Teacher at Chrisman High School, retiring
from there after over 20 years of dedicated service. He was an FFA Sponsor, a
member of the Parke County Antique Tractor Club, and a Free Mason. Eric loved
auctions, old books, traveling the back roads, and collecting Allis-Chalmers
tractors and implements and Studebaker vehicles. He frequently entered a
Studebaker in the Newport Hill Climb. He was a respected educator with
integrity and a sense of humor, a devoted Chicago Bears fan, and most
importantly a good son and brother.
Survivors
include his mother of Chrisman, Illinois; one brother, Frank (Becky) Dixon of
Avon; two sisters, Terisa (Raymond) Vincel of Valparaiso and Tammy (Daniel)
Lutz of Rockville; and four nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death
by his father. Visitation is 4:00-5:00 p.m. CDT Tuesday, June 18 at Scottland
Methodist Church, 22539 N 1960th Street, Chrisman, Illinois. Services will
follow at 5:00 p.m. CDT at Scottland Methodist Church with Ken Brooks
officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Chapel.
Eric
actively supported Mercy Ships (mercyships.org) and the Chrisman chapter of
FFA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of these organizations
in his honor.
