Highland High School, located in Madison County in Section 15, is seeking a highly qualified high school Agriculture Education Instructor and FFA Advisor for the 2024-2025 school year. The new teacher will teach alongside Claire Geiger and Alex Johannes The program currently includes approximately 300 students and 100 active FFA members. The chapter is known for its competitive Program of Activities, community involvement, strong alumni, and administrative support.

Facilities and technology available include:
Four classrooms, CTE computer lab, school bus for department use, mobile labs (iPad and Chrome Book), Smart TV's in each classroom, Greenhouse, Ag Mechanics Shop, Land Lab, Woodworking Shop, and Welding Shop.

Applicant must be willing to:
  • Work cooperatively with a team of Agriculture teachers to ensure consistency of instruction.
  • Contribute to and support curriculum development and instructional improvement.
  • Use research based methods to develop engaging lessons that require higher order thinking.
  • Prepare teaching plans, demonstrations, and instructional materials for Agriculture Science and Technology classes.
  • Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture materials and equipment for classroom and laboratory.
  • Advise and evaluate students regarding Supervised Agriculture Experience Programs.
  • Conduct site visits and keep records of SAE's at the local and state levels as recommended by the State Department of Education.
  • Accommodate students with a variety of skills, abilities, and challenges.
  • Work cooperatively with teacher of all departments to support a collaborative school culture.
  • Accept professional development opportunities and commit to continual improvement.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbal.
  • Communicate high expectations for teaching and learning.
  • Provide strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Be willing to serve as advisor for the FFA chapter. Be willing to work with the FFA Alumni members.
Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with agriculture endorsement grades 6-12 preferred, or the ability to apply for a short-term approval in these areas.

Salary:
Per collective bargaining agreement; the position is for a 9 month contract and a $7,000 FFA Advisor stipend each; the 3 Circles Grant will also be available to qualified candidates.
