Hello Chicago Area teachers!
I have a couple of quick Save The Dates for you to get on your calendars. Please make every effort to bring students to these events!
- Plant Systems contest - Ball Horticulture in West Chicago is excited about helping us re-launch our Horticulture contest. We're going to tweak it a little bit from the traditional contest, mostly by incorporating two new activities: presentations about Ball Horticulture careers, and a team-based challenge. Details forthcoming, but SAVE THE DATE: Wednesday March 12, 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm
- Job Interview and Public Speaking contest- I've been working with ADM (Archer-Daniels-Midland, the Human, Pet, and Animal Nutrition Company) and they are eager to host us at their global headquarters building in downtown Chicago for the Job Interview & Public Speaking contests. The event will start with presentations about career opportunities with their Fortune 50 company, and the food processing industry followed by the job interview and public speaking contests. We're working on dates- but it will be in mid-April. Stay tuned.
- Section SAE Fair - April 30 at Gary Comer Youth Center, Chicago. Stay tuned for details.
- Food Production Contest: May 21. Will be held at Freeport High School during the day. Plan your bus requests now.
Reminders
Rosters - Don’t forget to get rosters cleaned up. If students are in your roster who are no longer in classes and not using a conflict or graduated, need to be inactivated by clicking the “x” beside their name. If this is your first time doing the roster and you need help, just let me know.
CBS News Clip on Christmas tree farms - perfect for a Plant Sci or Hort class to learn about this sector of the industry. https://youtu.be/AdwmnVaraRM?si=ZBhJ0DVWD7UvJ9V_ After they watch it, have them research tree farms in Illinois.
25 SAE Project Ideas - YouTube- It’s time to get students excited about starting an SAE project! Pop on this video, 25 SAE Project Ideas || SAE Project Ideas || MyFFAExperience (it’s a student’s SAE project) as a bellringer and have students write down their favorite ideas and do a bit of research to find out other things they can do as their SAE project.
New FFA Advisor Chat (12/11) - If you're still feeling overwhelmed by FFA and SAE, make sure you pop into this month’s early career Advisor chat on SAE’s and FFA Week! It starts at 3:30pm on Zoom. Here is the link & info: https://zoom.us/j/98350579915?pwd=Q0VZOGNxaDFhVzlkOTBoZXBTOW1xUT09
