39th Annual Dan Hoge Invitational Livestock Judging Contest
TO: Vocational Agriculture Instructors, FFA Chapter Advisors, and 4-H Coaches
FROM: Dr. Blake Bloomberg and Dan Hoge
WHEN: Saturday, March 1, 2025
WHERE: East Campus | 26230 Black Hawk Road, Galva, IL 61434
Registration: Student Center, Building A – 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
Contest Start Time: 8:15 a.m. – Agriculture Arena Complex

The Black Hawk College – East Campus Livestock Judging Team cordially invites you to participate in the 39 th
Annual Dan Hoge Invitational!
The contest will offer four divisions which will run simultaneously; all divisions will offer classes in beef, swine, and
sheep or Boer goat. As always, the same team and/or individuals will not be allowed to compete in both divisions.

Jr. and Sr. Reasons - $100 per team; $25 per
individual

Jr. and Sr. Questions - $80 per team; $20 per
individual

8 th Grade and less will be considered Jr.
Current FFA member of same school

Current 4-H member of same county; no College Current 4-H member of same county; no College
Three or four team members Three or four team members
Top 3 Overall Scores = Team Score Top 3 Overall Scores = Team Score

One class in each species will have performance data that may include:
Cattle EPD’s Swine EPD’s Sheep Data
Birth Weight Loin Eye Area 60 Day Weight
Weaning Weight Back Fat 120 Day Weight
Yearling Weight Number Born/Number Weaned Type of Birth – single, twin, triplet
Maternal Milk Days to 250 lbs. Type of Rearing
Breed Relevant Indexes Sow Productivity Index Codon 171
The contest will be held at the East Campus location, just five miles south of Kewanee, Illinois. Lodging is
available at the following locations: AmericInn – Kewanee (309) 856-7200
