Open Sherrard Ag Ed Position
Ag Ed Teaching Position beginning with the 25-26 school year. After teaching 44 years, the last
9 in Illinois, Bill Hammes will be retiring at the end of the current contract year. The successful
candidate will work with current Ag Ed instructors John Rasty and Ellie Franks. The candidate
should be highly motivated, community-minded, and collaborative. The candidate should be
prepared to offer students authentic learning experiences in and out of the classroom. The
Sherrard Unit 200 School District is located across portions of Rock Island and Mercer Counties.
The Sherrard H.S. was named to the 2024 US News and World Reports list of Best High Schools.
It is located in District 1, Section 3.
Current course offerings :
7th and 8th grade Ag, Introduction to Agricultural Industry, Agricultural Science, Natural
Resources Management, Ag. Business Management, Veterinary Science, Horticulture, Ag
Woods, Ag Construction and Tech, Agricultural Co-op Education, Ag Communications, Welding
101 (College credit), Ag Metal Fabrication, and Basic Ag Mechanics. Course assignments will
be based on areas of strength of the successful candidate. Other dual credit opportunities are
available.
Facilities:
The Ag Ed program and FFA chapter has excellent administrative and community support. The
facilities include 3 adjoining classrooms each with a Clevertouch screen, multiple large shops
including a Woods shop, Metals Shop, Weld Shop and an Engines Shop, a 3 year old 30’ x 60’
state of the art greenhouse with a 20’x 30’ headhouse. A 1/3 acre garden is used to raise produce
for area food pantries. The chapter operates 54 acres of row crop that rotates between corn and
soybeans. The chapter has a 40’ x 80’pole barn for storage of some chapter owned farm
equipment.

Qualifications:
Illinois PEL or ELS.
2-5 years experience in agriculture education preferred.
CASE certified in at least one course preferred.

Salary/Benefits:
Commensurate with education and experience and based upon the teachers’ collective bargaining
agreement, which contains salary and benefit details. First year teacher base salary is $44,562
with every certified employee receiving a $3000 stipend in May included in the current
bargaining agreement.

The school participates in the 3 Circles Grant program.
