Dear Instructor,

The Horticulture Department at Joliet Junior College would like to extend an invitation to you and your students, to compete in its annual Horticulture Career Development Event.  The CDE is on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.  The contest will take place at the Weitendorf Agriculture Center, refreshments will be served prior to the event beginning.:

The cost is $30.00 per team or $6.00 per student.  A team consists of 5 students.  Each school may enter up to three teams.  You may reserve you spot by emailing myself, dbartz@jjc.edu.  Please provide the number of students you are planning to bring.  Payment may be brought the day of the contest or checks can be mailed to the following address.  Make checks payable to Joliet Junior College.  The registration deadline is Friday March 28th, the event has a limit of 25 teams.

The CDE with consist of the following Events:

 

                        -Judge eight (8) classes                        -ID & Controlling Plant Disorders

                        -Completion of written exam              -Landscape Drawing

                        -Identification of 50 plants

The college will again be offering scholarships to the top five individuals.  These scholarships are for students planning to attend Joliet Junior College to pursue a degree or a certificate in Horticulture.  This award is available to any high school senior who competes at this contest. Successful recipients will be notified by mail.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your students to use their classroom knowledge.  It is also a great way for the students to see what educational opportunities the college has to offer in the area of Agriculture and Horticulture.  We look forward to your participation.
