State Meats Evaluation and Veterinary Science CDEs:

For State Meats: Early Bird Registration closes this Saturday, February 15th at 11:59pm. Per the contest host, there is a slight change to the Keep/Cull practicum and an additional clarification. From the Host:

2025 Keep Cull
For this year's keep cull class at the State FFA contest, we will have 8 different meat products for students to keep and cull based on a scenario. This change is due to product availability at U of I.

Products could be items such as steak, roasts, ribs, offal, etc.
Products will be selected from the National FFA retail ID list.
To best prepare for this style of keep cull you should-
Ensure your students know how to accurately identify meat cuts (same as retail ID)

General knowledge on how to cook different meat products such as roasts vs. steaks, grilling vs. smoking vs. stove top.

Scenario will be given to students before the contest at the start of the competition.

REMINDER FOR COMPETITION
Please ensure your students understand the importance of food safety. There is no food or drink, including gum, allowed in the coolers.

Do not touch ANY product for any reason during the competition.

Please bring frocks in a grocery sack and ensure they are NOT worn anywhere except in the meat science lab on campus. This includes the stock pavilion.

State Vet Science: Early Bird Registration closes this Saturday, February 15th at 11:59pm. Please also be aware that the ID portion of the contest will be done using a Powerpoint, the same as last year's event.
